In pickSaaS you’ll find best website creators for everyone.

Now — let’s focus on the most important steps to your very own website.

But the website is not only about the site. Its greatness is in details. I’ll give you a few tips to make a great website! Are you ready?

The content

1. The idea

The idea? What idea? — you can ask.

Well… every website is about something. At least — should be. Picksaas is all about SaaS apps. This is the first information you find on the main site. This is the idea.

So — what is the main idea of your website? Ask yourself. That knowledge will give your website a great boost. All that because you’ll know exactly what the main purpose of your website is.

After that, you’ll know what your website should contain. And the users will appreciate that. When you’ll know users needs, the structure of the website will be answering all the questions. Because of that users will be able to find everything faster and easier.

Tip: when you develop the idea of a website — give it some time. Maybe a week. After that ask yourself, does that idea still gives you a drive. If so — work your way up.

2. The structure

So, you have a great idea for your website. That’s fantastic! Users will like it, for sure. Now you need to plan the structure of your website.

Yes, the structure is always important. Especially on the websites.

Ask yourself — what information your future user will seek on the website? Try to put it into “segments of content”.

After a few minutes, you’ll see these “segments” as a perfect base for each key-subsite of your website.

Tip: the subject of each key-subsite should be mentioned on the main site. Your users will learn a lot about your website just by scrolling through the main site!

Now, when you know “what”, it’s time to ask yourself “how”.

3. The tools

The toolbox for every website is a large subject. That’s for sure. Especially when you need a website and don’t want to code.

So, let’s start at the beginning.

Fonts — structure and look

Every website needs text. You’re reading it right now! Choose a right font for your website. You don’t need to be very creative — simple solutions are the best. That include fonts.

Simple, easy-to-read fonts are the key to the clean look of the website. You’ll find a handful of these on Google Fonts. Plus — if you want to add some “perfect pair”, Google Fonts help you to choose the perfect match for the chosen font.

If we’re talking about fonts — remember: minimal size of normal text on the website should be at least 20 px for desktop and 18 px for the mobile. At least.

Every text needs good headlines — H1 and so on. Headlines are important for the users (gives your text structure). And for the Google algorithm (headlines give solid pieces of information about the website).

Pro tip: to keep website clear and easy to use, it’s better to use 2 (max. 3) font families (e.g. Open Sans for main text and Lato for headlines).

Colors and graphics

Every website needs a good and consequent design. A large part of the design is the colors and graphics. Very often the quality graphics can save the average project. So where to start?

Think about the idea of your website. What color comes you in mind, when you think about that? If you’re not sure — ask your friends. They’ll help!

When you find that color (or — colors), you can create a color palette for your website! With tools such as Coolors.co, you’ll do that easily. Plus — you can upload a picture (e.g. your logo) and generate a great palette for your website.

For the graphics, it is always a good idea to use stocks. Especially — free ones. Unplash, Pexels, KaboomPics and so on — you’ll find their thousands of free photos!

Tip: if you want to add chosen colors for the website use HEX-codes.

To create your own graphics, you can use SaaS apps such as Canva or Stencil. You’ll create great graphics for your website with ease!

Graphics are often the biggest elements of the website. Their size can slow down every page. Best graphics formats for the websites are .jpg (for photos, graphics and so on) and .svg (vector objects — for logos and other non-photographic objects).

If you want a fast website — compress .jpg files. You can use desktop tools (and adjust compression manually) or use tools such as TinyJPG (compress your pictures automatically).

Language and the content

To provide great content for your users — make sure it is properly written. You know, the devil is in the details. Sometimes little apostrophe will make a completely different sentence.

Even if you’re perfect in English, it’s good to check. Tools such as Grammarly or Hemingway App will give you feedback and correct misspellings.

If you want people to listen to you, you should create clear and correct sentences ;).

4. The website building

When you know “what” and “how”, it’s the highest time to move your idea right to the internet!

If you don’t know how to code — no problem. Use one of the website builders to make your own site.

Most of them give you a handful of great tools and templates. I’ll talk about WebWave. It’s a drag-and-drop website creator with great features and premium support for everyone.

In the WebWave you can easily create a website from scratch or with one of the dozens of free templates. WebWave allows to use layers and levels, add vector objects and adjust every element with pixel-perfect precision.

Plus — you create the fully responsive website without coding. Just arrange elements on the website as you want and… it’s ready. Things such as fast website creator, a free stock of great photos and great premium plan are obvious.

Websites created in drag and drop creators — such as WebWave — has a great advantage: these websites are easy to maintain. No plug-ins updates, no hosting problems, just your project.

5. Great tools for your created website

First of all — Google gives you a lot of free tools, for example, Google Search Console and Google Analytics. First make indexing your website easier; second, give you insight about your website users.

If you want to be in contact with your users — you can add one of the chats to your website. In WebWave you’ll do it in a few moments.

TinyJPG Analyzer

TinyJPG Analyzer

It’s good to use Google PageSpeed Insights and TinyJPG Analyzer for your website speed evaluation. These tools give you great insight and show the “level of smartphone-friendliness”.

Plus — if you’re more into SEO, you need to test your website in Lighthouse. That tool gives you insight focused more on the SEO. It’s a great source of tips on how to make a better website!

It’s always a good idea to stay in touch with users. Almost nothing gains the attention of users as good as chat.

Chat on the website gives you few things. Fist of all — gives your users the opportunity to contact you easier. Ask questions, and so on. People love to ask questions.

Live chat for your website

Live chat for your website

Secondly — chat on the website boost your website authority in the eyes of the users. “They’re ready to talk to me and answer my questions” — that your user will think.

Plus — you can install one of the chats to your website (best of them you’ll find in live chats list on PickSaaS). From my own experience, I highly recommend Tawk.to. We use that chat in WebWave and we’re more than happy with that solution.

On the other hand, you have solutions such as CallPage. It gives your users an opportunity to have call-back from you when they want — even within 28 seconds.

And of course: SEO. While your website SEO-abilities rely on the CMS or tool you use, your SEO-approach is all up to you.

It’s always good to choose the right keywords. When you know one, you can work your way up with tools such as Ubersuggest, Ahrefs, and SEMrush.
Write down one keyword and search for other — similar and comparable.

Your future users will type these keywords into the Google search window to find a website like yours.

But if you’re ready to go full-on into SEO — search for LSI keywords. LSI stands for latent semantic indexing — phrases semantically related to your keyword. You’ll find them in tools such as mentioned SEMrush and my own newest discovery: twinword.com.

Great addition to that list will be a tool, that allows you to manage your own website project. From the very beginning to the end. When you think about your website — it is your project and should have you as a project manager.

Manage your website project in some kind project management tool — Trello or Asana. Both help you to finish the work on the website and create a complete project.

6. Final thoughts

As you can see — creating a website is complex, yet manageable work! Yes, you need to put some effort into it. But even without coding skills, you can create a fast and astonishing website.

Mentioned tools make the whole work easier. Just remember: you create a website for your users. Think about their needs. They’ll be grateful.
