Olark is known as one of the simplest, most user-friendly solutions on the market. Installation takes only a couple of seconds, all you need to do is copy a piece of code, and paste it in the body of your website. Your customers can then interact with you with a simple chat window available at your site.

The operator’s platform has only 4 tabs, which makes it extremely simple to navigate and accessing transcripts, reports, settings or adding operators is just very quick, smooth and easy. The only downside you may find is that the chat platform has to be used in a separate window. This might turn out to be problematic in case you want to browse through transcripts, reports or settings while chatting with customers as you have to switch between browser’s windows.

Olark offers a free version for one operator with the maximum number of 20 chats per month which might be enough for solo founders running a small-traffic website. To use more advanced features such as chat ratings or transcripts, you will need to purchase a premium version starting at $17 per month per each operator if you pay on a monthly basis. This isn’t the lowest price for a solution providing rather simplistic functionality but is definitely a well-balanced pay for customers expecting a quick and easy to use live chat.

Olark provides quite a long list of native integrations enabling you to implement a live chat window very easily if you already use other online solutions like Salesforce, Zendesk or Help Scout. You can also easily connect with other CRMs, mailing services or Google Analytics.

Olark integrates easily with e-commerce platforms such as Shopify or Big Commerce, however, if you want to implement Olark in some basic e-commerce solutions like PrestaShop or WIX, it does not provide a special plugin, so you will need to follow the instructions available at Olark’s website. Olark’s design is just neat and simple so if you are looking for visual fireworks, you will not find them here. You can very easily customize the look of your chat window including the theme and background color, button’s style or positioning at your website. You can also set totally different outlook for mobile devices which is a big advantage.

What is more, you can enhance your chat window with standardized or custom attention grabbers. Platform’s design is outstanding, with beautifully visualized reports and other interface’s elements. The only thing which might need a re-design is a chat platform which feels a little bit outdated.

Olark, even in a premium version focuses on delivering rather basic functionality. You can set automated messages, e.g. if a visitor visits 3 tabs at your website, he/she will get a particular automated chat message. You can also set shortcuts, meaning you can predefine particular responses you often use in conversations.

It is strange that the company decided to abandon a co-browsing feature which was truly unique. Instead, you can only redirect your visitor to the particular website which is still a useful feature. What distinguishes Olark is its well-designed and extensive customer surveys.

Anytime during the conversations, you can ask your customer for a feedback through a very simple survey he completes in a chat window. You can then check the statistics in a canny reports tab, providing you insight into responsiveness, knowledge, and friendliness. Support is just ok, with many guide materials and handbooks available at their website and responsive customer support. The representative’s knowledge is also very broad and it does take only a few steps to solve any issue. However, you should not expect instant 24/7 contact.

To sum up, Olark is a very well-designed, user-friendly live chat with a free version to try out basic features. On the other hand, its functionality and customization are limited and the software does not offer co-browsing feature, anymore. Olark is definitely for you if you are looking for a simple solution to collect standardized feedback from your customers.
